Natural killer cell therapy looks into the treatment of cancer by stimulating natural killer cells that fight off cancer in humans who have various types of cancer. It has recently been studied as to the mechanism of action of this type of therapy.
One research article (1) discussed natural killer or NK cell therapy as a defense against cancerous cells. Natural killer cells directly kill tumor cells by recognizing foreign receptors on the surface of cancer cells. The article indicated that NK cells respond to signals on the cancer cells, resulting in the destruction of the cancerous cells.
The study found that NK cells produce effector molecules that can block the growth of tumors and can stimulate the immune system. When the immune system is stimulated, it can better fight cancer cells.
