Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the Treatment of Cancer

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a method of therapy that uses high concentrations of oxygen to treat various diseases. Dozens of health problems have been approved for use with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, including trauma, gangrene, and carbon monoxide poisoning.

One article (1) discussed hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as a treatment for cancer. It noted that most air we breathe contains only 21 percent oxygen for the production of cell energy but that 100 percent oxygen can accelerate healing and treat cancer.

The article also noted that HBOT can help patients undergoing radiation treatments for cancer. It reduces the inflammation in the tissues around cancer and helps reduce the levels of oxygen free radicals, which can make cancer worse. It also helps build new blood vessels that become damaged in radiation therapy.
