Pomegranate juice is a type of juice that is believed to halt the progression of prostate cancer. It was evaluated in a study presented at the American Urological Associate’s annual meeting that took place in 2009.
One article (1) discussed pomegranate juice and its ability to halt the progression of prostate cancer. The article cited a study that included nearly 50 men who suffered from rising PSA levels (prostate-specific antigen) after receiving radiotherapy or surgery to treat their prostate cancer. The men had PSA levels that were at least 0.2 and less than 5.0, with a mean doubling time of 15.4 months.
They found that, by drinking eight ounces of pomegranate juice per day, the men had significant lowering of their PSA doubling times. After that, the researchers followed the participants for as long as 5 years. The PSA doubling times of those who kept taking pomegranate juice were about 4 times more likely to have a decrease in doubling time. As this was a human study, it can safely be said that pomegranate juice can help prostate cancer patients.
