Cancer Statistics for 2016

Every year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on the incidence of cancer and the expected number of cancer deaths in the US during the subsequent year. This has been done for the year 2016 to find out how many people will have cancer or a cancer death this year.

According to a research article (1) published in a major cancer journal, there are expected to be more than 1,600,000 new cases of cancer and nearly 600,000 cancer deaths in the year 2016. The cancer statistics show that the incidence of cancer in females is going to remain the same, while there will be a reduction in cancer by about 3 percent in men in the year 2016.

Overall, there has been a 23 percent reduction in new cancer incidence since the year 1991, which means that there have been more than 1,700,000 fewer cases of cancer since that time. The rates of uterine cancer, pancreatic cancer, and liver cancer, however, seem to be increasing.
