Ganoderma lucidum is a natural substance found in reishi mushrooms. It is used among naturopaths and in Asian medical circles as a way to boost the immune system, which would theoretically enhance the ability to fight cancer.
One research article (1) looked into the use of Ganoderma lucidum and its anti-cancer properties. This was a review article, meaning that it gathered data from other research articles to find a large resource of information on the use of Ganoderma lucidum and the treatment of cancer.
The authors of the article found that there was insufficient evidence that Ganoderma lucidum had the ability to fight cancer, at least as a first line treatment for the disease. They did not find that it prolonged the life of cancer patients but that it could be a good substance to take as an adjunct to conventional methods of treating cancer.
